WW2 German Field Telephone Equipment… Line Construction – Part 3

Field telephone line construction (Leitungsbau) is described in Luftwaffe training publication L. DIV. 419/7a, Nachrichtenteschnichs Merkblatt, Section A. Leitungsbau. Now, let’s continue looking at some illustrations from this publication.

Figure 6. The mast throw knot secures the telephone wire to the top of the line pole.

Figure 7. Anchor rope of the line pole. A single piece of anchor rope (Ankerseil) is tied to the top of the pole with a mast throw knot. The ends of the rope are secured to the ground with an anchor stakes (Ankerpfahlen). The pole is buried 60 cm deep into the ground.

Figure 8. Makeshift double pole. If line poles are unavailable, a makeshift double pole can be used. The poles are made from long, thin, straight branches. Cut the branches to about 5 meters in length. The top ends of each pair of poles should be lashed together with rope.

Figure 9. Anchoring the corner poles. Insert pole 60 cm into the ground slightly inclined outwards.

In Part 4, we will continue review of Luftwaffe training publication L. DIV. 419/7a, Nachrichtenteschnichs Merkblatt, Section A. Leitungsbau.
